Sergeant Abraham

Little is known at present about the background or military service of this man.

He is identified in the above photo, which appeared in the Belfast Evening Telegraph of 28 January 1915, part of a group photo of officers and NCOs of the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron at Enniskillen. (The full image can be seen here.)

The same man appears in a later image, a group photo of the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron Reserve probably taken at Enniskillen in 1917 or 1918. (This can be seen here.)

From this the following can be surmised, subject to any further information coming to light.

Abraham joined the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron, either enlisted of transferred from another regiment, between September 1914 and January 1915. He was soon after given the rank of sergeant, perhaps on account of previous military experience.

He remained at the squadron's reserve base at Enniskillen throughout the war, rising to the rank of senior sergeant (perhaps squadron sergeant-major).
