Private Oliver Johnston

 

 

Oliver Johnston was born in 1892 at Enniskillen, County Fermanagh.

A member of the East Belfast Regiment, Ulster Volunteer Force, he enlisted in the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron (No.UD/281) in August 1915. Sent to France as a reinforcement in 1916 or 1917, his squadron became part of the 2nd North Irish Horse Regiment in June 1916.

In September 1917 he was transferred to the 9th Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers when the regiment was dismounted and absorbed into that battalion (No.41161). He was wounded twice, in November 1917 during the Battle of Cambrai, and in the first half of 1918.
