Private Robert Weir

 

 

Robert Weir, from Belfast, enlisted in the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron (No.UD/75) in October or November 1914. he was sent to France with his squadron in October 1915, which was then divisional cavalry to the 36th (Ulster) Division. In June 1916 the squadron became part of the 2nd North Irish Horse Regiment.

In September 1917 he was transferred to the 9th Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers when the regiment was dismounted and absorbed into that battalion (No.41140). He was subsequently wounded twice, the first time at Cambrai in November or December 1917, and the second in September 1918 during the Advance to Victory offensive.

He was transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve on 23 March 1919.
