William Dundas was the son of Edward Dundas of Drumgrow, Belleek, Co. Fermanagh. He enlisted in the North Irish Horse on 2 October 1911 (No.620). He embarked for France on 20 August 1914 with C Squadron.

On 20 September 1917 he transferred to the 9th (North Irish Horse) Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers, when the 2nd North Irish Horse Regiment was dismounted and absorbed into that infantry battalion (No.41399).

In January 1918 he transferred to the 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 1 October 1918, aged 30. Having no known grave, his name is inscribed on Panel 141, Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
