Born Erigaal, County Tyrone. Son of William and Martha J. Harper, Corcreevy, Fivemiletown, County Tyrone. Enlisted Fivemiletown.

Embarked for France on 20 August 1914 as part of Squadron, North Irish Horse.

Died in England on 24 May 1915, aged 21.

Buried at Netley Military Cemetery, Hampshire, England, grave C.E.1693.

The grave inscription reads:
