Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial

 

Menin Gate 1

 

Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, commemorates those of all Commonwealth nations (except New Zealand) who died in the Ypres Salient before 16 August 1917. The Memorial bears the names of more than 54,000 officers and men whose graves are not known. Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield with sculpture by Sir William Reid-Dick, it was unveiled in July 1927.

Six men of the North Irish Horse, 2nd Lieutenant S. M. Linden, Company Quartermaster Sergeant John Henry Shaw, Corporal W. H. Adams, Lance Corporal William Thomas Graham, Rifleman Edward Lennox and Private J. Talbot, are commemorated here. The location of their names on the memorial is marked on the plan below.
