Private William Girvan

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not clear. The only reference to his service in the regiment is on the Ballynure Methodist Church Roll of Honour (see below), which gives his name as 'W. J. Girvan'.

According to Richard Wallace in his The World War One Rolls of Honour in Ballynure Presbyterian Church and Ballynure Methodist Church, he was William John Girvan, born on 3 May 1900 at Ballynure to William Girvan (a hay dealer) and his wife Lizzie (née Jackson). However the birth registration documents for that person show his name as William Stewart Girvan.

Girvan's date of enlistment in the North Irish Horse is not known; nor is his regimental number. It appears that he did not serve overseas during the war.
