Private Frederick Percy Judson

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known for certain, but he may have been the Frederick Percy Judson born on 9 December 1887 at 263 Osmaston Road, Derby, the second of four children of commercial traveller (later printer's assistant manager) Frederick Judson and his wife Alice (née Ineson). At the time of the 1901 Census he was living at 26 Hamilton Avenue, Potter Newtown, Leeds, Yorkshire with his parents and three sisters. By 1911 he was living as a boarder at 83 Kensington Gardens Square, London, with his parents, and working as a printer's costs clerk.

Judson enlisted or was called up between 1915 and 1917 and posted to a cavalry regiment (No.76119). By November 1917 he was serving in the 2/1st South Nottinghamshire Yeomanry (South Nottinghamshire Hussars) at Littlebourne, Canterbury (regimental number 56209) – the unit having been to converted to cyclists.

During 1918 Judson was attached to the North Irish Horse, serving in France with the 1st North Irish Horse Regiment (also by then a cyclist unit, serving as corps cyclists to V Corps). He may have served with the Army of Occupation in Germany during 1919.

On 28 November 1919 Judson was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.

At the time of the 1939 Register Judson was living at 36 Reginald Terrace, Leeds, and working as a commercial traveller. He died there on 30 October 1945.
