Private Andrew Dane Kennedy

Andrew Dane Kennedy was born on 2 December 1886 at Derryhinney, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, the second of three children of farmer Andrew Kennedy and his wife Eliza Jane (formerly Noble). His father died when Andrew was just 3 years old.

Kennedy enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Enniskillen on 10 November 1908 (No.235). At the beginning of the war when the regiment was mobilised, he was initially listed as absent without leave (from 16 to 25 August 1914).

On 20 January 1915 he embarked for France with a small reinforcement party for A and C Squadrons of the North Irish Horse. He may have become ill or been wounded soon after, for on 2 May 1915 he left France for home.

Kennedy chose to be discharged from the army when his period of engagement ended on 9 November 1915. His record of service was marked as 'good'.
