Private Andrew Hamilton McCormick

 

The only evidence of this man's military service discovered to date is contained in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour: 1914-1919, which states that he served as a Trooper in the North Irish Horse, lived in Kilclean, County Tyrone, and was a member of the Castlederg Second Congregation, Donegal Presbytery.

Andrew Hamilton McCormick was born on 4 April 1891 at Kilclean, the fifth of nine children of farmer John McCormick and his wife Isabella (née Hamilton). His father died when he was just ten years old.

It is not known at present when he enlisted in the North Irish Horse, and there is no record that he served overseas with the regiment. He may have served through the war at the regimental reserve depot at Antrim.

In May 1926 he emigrated to Canada. He died on 7 April 1962 at Essondale, Vancouver, and was buried in the Hazelwood Cemetery
