The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present.

The only evidence of his military service discovered to date is contained in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour, which states that he served as a Trooper in the North Irish Horse, lived in Ballymena, County Antrim, and was a member of the Ballymena West Church Congregation of the Presbyterian Church.

It is possible that he was connected to, or was even the same person as, North Irish Horseman John McKergan.
