Private Robert Arthur Miller
Robert Arthur Miller was born on 28 August 1889 at 32 Sandy Hill Road, Plumstead, Kent, the third of six children of Royal Arsenal tinsmith Robert Harry Miller and his wife Maud Elizabeth (née Banks). Between 1901 and 1911 his family left Plumstead and his father changed profession. At the time of the 1911 Census Robert and his parents were living at 26 Kent Street, Fleetwood, Lancashire, all three working as actors.
Miller enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Antrim on 24 January 1916 (No.2087). He was described as being 5' 7" tall with a pale complexion, fair hair and blue eyes. He gave his occupation as an actor.
He trained at the regiment's reserve base at Antrim, but was reported to have deserted on 18 August 1916. No further information about his military service has been discovered.
At the time of the 1939 Register he was living at 62 Plaistow Road, West Ham, and gave his occupation as ship's cook.
