Private Samuel Moore

 

 

Samuel Moore was born on 15 January 1900 At Churchtown, Strabane, County Tyrone, the fourth of eight children of farmer William Moore and his wife Elizabeth (née North). At the time of the 1911 Census he was living at Ardstraw, Churchlands, County Tyrone, with his parents and six of his siblings.

Nothing further has been discovered about his military service, but given his age, he probably enlisted in the North Irish Horse in 1917 or 1918, seeing out the war at the regimental reserve depot at Antrim before being demobilised in 1919.

On 21 June 1927 he married Mary Kemp in the Whitehead Presbyterian Church, County Antrim.

Moore was awarded an MBE in the 1964 Queen's Birthday Honours List (see article below).

His name is included on the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour: 1914-1919.
