Private Charles Morton
The only evidence of this man's military service discovered to date is contained in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour: 1914-1919, which states that he served as a Trooper in the North Irish Horse, lived at Simla, Glastonbury Avenue, Belfast, and was a member of the Fortwilliam Park Congregation.
Charles Morton was born on 7 May 1900 at 28 Newington Street, Belfast, the only child of linen warehouseman Henry Eccleston Morton and his wife Mary Alice (née Stewart). At the time of the 1911 Census he was living in Glastonbury Avenue with his parents.
Given his age, he probably enlisted in the North Irish Horse in 1917 or 1918, seeing out the war at the regimental reserve depot at Antrim before being demobilised in 1919.
Morton married Margaret Grace McGahey in Glasgow on 11 July 1931.
He died as a result of a motor vehicle accident on 8 September 1956 and was buried in the Carnmoney Cemetery.
