Private Henry Perry
Henry Perry was born on 11 March 1896 at Casheltown, Portglenone, County Antrim, the eighth of ten children of blacksmith Alexander Perry and his wife Ellen (née Perry). At the time of the 1911 Census he was living in Galgorm Parks, Ballymena, with his parents and five of his siblings, and working as a saddler.
The only reference to Perry's service in the North Irish Horse is in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour, which lists him (as Harry Perry) with the rank of Private, from Galgorm, belonging to the Ahoghill First Congregation, Ballymena Presbytery. One of his brothers, William, is also listed on the Roll as a Sergeant in the Royal Engineers.
Perry's date of enlistment is not known, but on 15 October 1918, when he married Mary Mavor Bell in the Ballymena High Kirk, his occupation was recorded as 'soldier'.
By May 1919 he was living at Ballykennedy, Balymena, and was working as a postman. He died in the Ballymena Hospital on 26 January 1971 and was buried in Ballymena Cemetery.
