Private Charles Reid

 

This man was probably the Charles Reid born on 10 July 1893 at Magheraboy, Ballymoney, County Antrim, the last of at least five children of farmer John Reid and his wife Margaret (née Rea).

There are just two references to his service in the North Irish Horse. The Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour listed him as a private, from Rasharkin, belonging to the Rasharkin Congregation, Ahoghill Presbytery. The Ballymena Observer of 19 July 1918 stated that he had enlisted in the regiment during the past fortnight.

Following his enlistment, Reid would have spent the remainder of the war at the regiment's reserve depot at Antrim, before being discharged during 1919.
