Private William (or Andrew) Richmond

 

The only evidence of this man's military service discovered to date is contained in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour: 1914-1919, which states that William Richmond served as a Trooper in the North Irish Horse, lived in Annsboro, and was a member of the Castlewellan Congregation of the Presbyterian Church.

William (originally named Andrew) Richmond was born on 19 May 1900 in Kilkeel, County Down, the second of ten children plumber and gasfitter Thomas Richmond and his wife Alicia Susanna (née Chambers). At the time of the 1911 Census he was living in Castlewellan, County Down, with his parents and six siblings.

Given William's age, he probably enlisted in the North Irish Horse in 1917 or 1918, seeing out the war at the regimental reserve depot at Antrim before being demobilised in 1919.
