November 1915 to June 1916
This map tracks the movements of F Squadron from its arrival in France on 17 November 1915 to the eve of the Battle of the Somme on 30 June 1916. The red line indicates the location of the front-line at the time. Towns in which the Squadron was based are shown in red. Other important towns and places mentioned in the Squadron diary are also shown.
For most of this period F Squadron was based near the La Bassee front. In April and May it was withdrawn to the coast for rest and training in preparation for the Somme offensive. The Squadron moved to the Somme front in mid-May 1916.
