Jeffrey was mentioned in a letter home by Private John Whiteside.
He later served as Private 11059 in the 116th (Sharpshooters) Company, 25th Battalion, Second Contingent. He was discharged at his own request on 30 July 1902 at Elandsfontein, South Africa, in order to take up employment with the New Primrose Mining Company, Germiston, Johannesburg District. His conduct was recorded as 'good', and he was described as having tattoo marks on his right and left arms, and stated his occupation as a plate layer.
