At Aldershot yesterday, the Coroner's jury returned a verdict that Trooper William Stewart, 60th Company 17th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, died from fracture of the skull through a fall from the balcony of Salamanca Barracks early on Tuesday morning, but there was no evidence to show how the fall was caused. The deceased had only arrived at Aldershot the previous evening, after two years in South Africa. (Daily News (London), 1 August 1902.)
